The Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) is the only national advocacy organization representing the full cross-section of Canada’s $78.8 billion tourism industry. TIAC has an exciting opportunity for a Director, Government and Industry Affairs at its downtown office in Ottawa. Reporting to the President and CEO, the Director, Government and Industry Affairs will play a key role in fostering the expansion of Canada’s most important service export industry.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Possess 7-10 years of experience in public affairs, government relations, or trade association management;
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of government relations and the federal public policy environment;
  • Be a self-motivated leader with prior experience in advocacy and stakeholder relations;
  • Have a thorough understanding of business economics and political-economic concepts
  • Be a strong oral and written communicator with the ability to make public presentations in English and French;
  • Have extensive experience preparing briefing materials, reports and presentations intended for senior executives, public officials and the general public;
  • Media relations experience and/or knowledge of the travel/transportation sectors not mandatory but would be considered an asset

The incumbent will:

  • Provide strategic guidance to the organization on policy positions and public affairs strategies that support TIAC’s objectives;
  • Engage with TIAC members and industry stakeholders and public officials in the travel and tourism sector;
  • Work with TIAC’s leadership to develop programming and content for the tourism industry’s national convention;
  • Assist in the development of tourism industry reports and research initiatives;
  • Help develop and execute TIAC’s media relations and membership development strategies
